Unlike many other Indian weddings I have photographed, this ceremony was scheduled in the afternoon. I had photographed Rakhee’s Sangeet in Chapel Hill previous evening.
I started photography session couple of hours before the ceremony. I captured Rakhee’s Hair and Makeup session at the Durham Marriott City Center (NC). It is interesting to capture the Indian bride as she gets ready. I captured Rakhee’s formal portraits and the family portraits. Since the bride and groom would not see each other before the ceremony, I setup a portrait studio and used contemporary white backdrop (later, after the ceremony, I captured bride and groom’s portraits outside the Marriott). Rakhee looked stunning! After the portrait session, I setup my lighting near the wedding ceremony mandap. Then it was the time to photograph Hiten’s baraat.
Hiten’s baraat arrived in style with a display of swordsmanship. The baraat was received and escorted to the mandap. Priest Pravin Shukla conducted the beautiful ceremony. He explained the Vedic ceremony in Gujarati as well as English. As is common, there were many social rituals along with the religious ones. Rakhee and Hiten made a beautiful couple. After the ceremony was over, I captured the group portraits.
We did a mini portrait session of the bride and groom outside the Marriott. While it was still warm outside, the bigger challenge was the light. But, I got some very nice images! Sometimes, you just have to be persistent. It was time for a little break- the reception will be starting soon…
