Pooja and Ram’s wedding ceremony was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Raleigh NC. We photographed double weddings there on the same day: Mica photographed Paula and Chris’s wedding downstairs in another ballroom!
The preparation started early in the morning. I photographed venue and decorations and then went on to photograph the bride getting ready. The bride getting ready was an elaborate process! Pooja looked beautiful! As the groom’s baraat gathered, I did a very quick portrait session of the bride and groom. I would say a very quick one! But, it was worth it!
The baraat went around the hotel. DJ Hangama provided the music for the baraat and ceremony. The groom arrived in a horse-drawn carriage, but, danced with his baraat for the most part! The baraat was received at the main entrance of the hotel. There were fun moments like groom dodging his mother-in-law who tried to pull his nose (all part of the social rituals!).
Once the groom was escorted to the mandap, it was time for the bride to walk down the aisle. This is always a magical moment! The ceremony proceeded with many religious and social rituals. The bride and groom made a beautiful couple and were happy to pose for photos with a long line of family and friends. The lunch was served in the ball room next door.
After the lunch, it was time for bride’s vidai (send-off). This was a very emotional moment for everyone, especially the bride’s family. The bride’s family had travelled from Africa for the wedding.
I had a little break and then it was time to get ready for the party!
